  1. Installing Winpack external programs written by GW4WOV

  4. Contents of zip file
  5. ====================
  6. There are 3 files needed for each external program:
  7.   1, an EXE file, this is the external program itself...
  8.   2, a PIF file, this allows the external program to run in a window and
  9.      also tells the external program where to find it's associated files.
  10.   3, a TXT file, this is the file that contains the information which will
  11.      be passed to winpack... The name of the text file is the same as the
  12.      as the external program eg: news.txt
  13.  
  14.   install.txt (this file) not needed by the external program...
  15.   prog.txt (short description of program) not needed by external program...
  16.  
  17. nb: once the external program is run it creates a fourth text file with a
  18.     REP extention, this is the REPly file which winpack reads and sends to 
  19.     the tnc...

  21. Installing.
  22. ===========
  23. 1, copy the 3 external program files to the winpack\extern directory, 
  24.    nowhere else or the programs will not work...
  25.  
  26. 2, load the external program's PIF file into Windows PIF editor, check 
  27.    that the drive and path contained in the START-UP DIRECTORY edit box is
  28.    the same as your winpack installation, default is c:\winpack\extern 
  29.    this should suffice in most cases, if not then edit the drive, path and
  30.    save the pif...

  32. 3, once you are satisfied that the pif file is in order you are free to 
  33.    test the program... From the winpack console enter the external program's
  34.    name preceded by a "/"  eg: /news <enter> The programs associated text 
  35.    file should be echoed to the screen...
  36.  
  37. 4, If everything appears to be ok, load the external program's text file into
  38.    Windows notepad, edit the file to your requirements, save the file...
  39.  
  40. Problems.
  41. =========
  42. If when you run the external program you get a message like this:

  44. "The KB Required Value is too large.
  45.  
  46. Decrease Pif KB Required"
  47.  
  48.  
  49. then load the PIF into Windows pif editor and lower the KB-REQUIRED
  50. setting from 128 to 100 save the pif and try again...
