- Installing Winpack external programs written by GW4WOV
- ======================================================
-
- Contents of zip file
- ====================
- There are 3 files needed for each external program:
- 1, an EXE file, this is the external program itself...
- 2, a PIF file, this allows the external program to run in a window and
- also tells the external program where to find it's associated files.
- 3, a TXT file, this is the file that contains the information which will
- be passed to winpack... The name of the text file is the same as the
- as the external program eg: news.txt
-
- install.txt (this file) not needed by the external program...
- prog.txt (short description of program) not needed by external program...
-
- nb: once the external program is run it creates a fourth text file with a
- REP extention, this is the REPly file which winpack reads and sends to
- the tnc...
-
- Installing.
- ===========
- 1, copy the 3 external program files to the winpack\extern directory,
- nowhere else or the programs will not work...
-
- 2, load the external program's PIF file into Windows PIF editor, check
- that the drive and path contained in the START-UP DIRECTORY edit box is
- the same as your winpack installation, default is c:\winpack\extern
- this should suffice in most cases, if not then edit the drive, path and
- save the pif...
-
- 3, once you are satisfied that the pif file is in order you are free to
- test the program... From the winpack console enter the external program's
- name preceded by a "/" eg: /news <enter> The programs associated text
- file should be echoed to the screen...
-
- 4, If everything appears to be ok, load the external program's text file into
- Windows notepad, edit the file to your requirements, save the file...
-
- Problems.
- =========
- If when you run the external program you get a message like this:
-
- "The KB Required Value is too large.
-
- Decrease Pif KB Required"
-
-
- then load the PIF into Windows pif editor and lower the KB-REQUIRED
- setting from 128 to 100 save the pif and try again...
